| Dentistry today has the most sophisticated, high-tech equipment ever available, allowing the dentist to treat and diagnose with remarkable precision. Such technology also vastly reduces, and in some cases eliminates, much of the pain and discomfort for you. The New Technology Present in Our Office: Digital imaging - Allows instantaneous views of images inside the patients' mouth. Examples include intra-oral cameras and extra-oral digital cameras (images from outside the mouth looking in). The benefit to you the patient is that we can both see what is going on inside the mouth therefore enhances the communication between the dentist and you the patient. Digital radiography - This is an amazing technology. Instead of having an x-ray film placed in your mouth which is then developed in a chemical processor, digital x-rays consit of a small sensor connected to the computer system wich provides a instantaneous x-ray on the computer screen. Unlike traditional x-rays, digital radiography allows the dentist to easily detect tooth decay, gum disease or an existing abscess by having computer software enhance and magnify the digital x-rays. The biggest advantage of using digital radiography is the safety for the patient because it reduces radiation by 90% when comparing with traditional x-rays and it is also enviromentaly safe since it eliminates all the harmful chemicals in the office used to develop a traditional x-ray film, chemicals that have to be replaced and disposed of on a regular basis. Cerec CAD/CAM technology - This is also an amazing technology. The CEREC system is used when a single crown, an inlay or an onlay is the recommended treatment for a tooth. The system has two separate parts. The first is an aquisition unit which is a powerful computer system that uses a infrared intraoral camera that captures images of the teeth in the mouth. These images are transfered to CAD/CAM software in the computer and a new tooth is designed. Once the design is final then it is transfered to a milling unit which by using a selected block of pressed ceramic, it mills the new tooth. The new tooth is tried in the mouth, polished and then bonded in place with the latest adhesive systems. What is so amazing about this technology is that it allows you the patient to have the permanent tooth in one visit, unlike the traditional way which takes about two weeks. The result is also amazing since it restores the broken down tooth with porcelain material without any metal therefore is highly esthetic and also eliminates any posibility of complications with a patient that has a metal allergies. You can read more about this technology at: www.sirona.com Tek Scan Occlusal Analysis System- The Tek Scan system consists of a digital pressure sensor which is connected to the computer system and which is placed in the patient's mouth and then the patient is asked to bite on it. The sensor sends all this imformation to the computer software and a mini realtime movie of how the patient is bitting is recorded. This allows to see when and which teeth are touching, the pressure intensitiy on each tooth and also the trajectory of the lower jaw as it comes to the final close. This is used in cases when more than one tooth is being replaced at the same time, for example a case of smile design when multiple veneers are placed at one time. This information is priceless when compared with traditional way of having the patient bite on a piece of carbon paper to see where the teeth are touching. The advantage to the patient is that all this important information allows the dentist to finely equilibrate how the teeth come toghether therefore providing equal pressure on all the teeth for improved chewing and resistance. |
